Attendance and Grant of Terms:

a)  Attendance of students is regulated by 0.119. The explanation issued by the University vide no. UG/ 235/98 dated 3/7/98 relating to 0.119 says that- “For granting of terms, attendance of 75% of theory, practical and tutorials (wherever prescribed) separately will be required, out of the total number of lectures, practical and tutorials conducted in the term.”

Note: The Hon’ble Bombay High Court in Appeal No.472/2002 held that Ordinance 119 makes it clear that attendance of two terms cannot be taken together for working out minimum attendance. The provision also says if the attendance is less than 50% only; the Management Council of the University can condone it.

b)    Students who fail to maintain the condition of minimum attendance on account of bonafide illness, or any other reason which is deemed right by the Principal, should apply in writing to the Principal for leave of absence, prior or within 2 days from the date of commencement of such leave, failing which they will be treated as defaulters.

c)    All applications for leave of absence along with medical certificate, if any, are submitted to the college office (inward section) and not directly to any teacher.

d)    Students who request leave of absence from lectures / practical / tutorials for participating in sports, games, cultural or any other activities for and behalf of the college / activity group, should submit the application countersigned by the respective Prof-incharge before the commencement of such leave failing which they will be treated as defaulters.

e)    Parents of Degree / Junior College students are requested to kindly monitor the attendance of their ward from the web site of the college. They should contact the Prof-in-charge of class, Head of Department, Vice-Principal or the Principal, at least once in term, to keep themselves abreast with their ward’s attendance and progress.

Scheme of Examination
The performance of the learners will be evaluated in two Components. One component will be the Internal Assessment component carrying 40% marks and the second component will be the Semester wise End Examination component carrying 60% marks. The allocation of marks for the Internal Assessment and Semester End Examinations will be as follows:
 
A) Internal Assessment – 40% -    (40 Marks)

Eligibility norms to appear for the additional class test or assignment or project for learners who remained absent

a) If the learner is absent on medical ground or for any reason/emergency beyond the control of the learner, the learner must apply to the Head of the Institution giving the reason(s) for absence within 8 days of the conduct of the examination along with the necessary documents and testimonials.

b) If the learner is absent for participation in Inter Collegiate events, State or National or International level events, Training camp or coaching camp organized by authorized university or state or national or international bodies, NSS / NCC Events / Camps / cultural activities / sports activities / research festival or any other activities authenticated by the head of the  institution, the head of the Institution shall generally grant permission to the learner to appear for the additional class test or assignment.

c) The Head of the Institution, on scrutiny of the documents and testimonials, may grant the permission to the learner to appear for the additional examination.

Class test or assignment for Internal Assessment for courses
a) A learner who is absent for the two class test and the assignment will be declared fail in the Internal Assessment Scheme.

b) A learner who is absent for the two class tests and has appeared for the assignment will be allowed to appear for the additional class test of 10 marks. However, his marks for the class tests will be taken as out of 20 i.e. he/she will forfeit his/her 10 marks of one class test (without conversion i.e. if the learner gets 4/10 marks in his additional class test, his/her marks for the class tests will be taken as 4/20) and internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks and not 30 marks.

c) A learner who has appeared for both the class test but remains absent for the assignment will be allowed to appear for the additional assignment and the internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks.

d) A learners who is absent for one of the two class tests/assignment as the case may be the learner will be allowed to appear for one additional class test/one additional assignment and the internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks.

The Additional Class Test (or Viva Voce examination) or Assignment will be conducted 15 days prior to the commencement of the Semester End Examination after following the necessary procedure and completing the formalities.

 
B) Semester End Examinations – 60%  -  (60 Marks)
 
I.  Duration – Theses examinations shall be of 2 Hours duration.
II. Question Paper Pattern:-

1) There shall be four questions each of 15 marks.
2) All questions shall be compulsory with internal choice within the questions.
3) Question may be subdivided into sub-questions a, b, c… and the allocation of
marks depend on the weightage of the topic.
 

Responsibility of Assessment
The assessment of Part “A” and “B” i.e. Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination as mentioned above for the Semester I to IV shall be processed by the Colleges / Institutions of their learners and issue the grade cards to them after the conversion of marks into grade.

Standard of Passing
The learners to pass a course shall have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate for each course where the course consists of Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination.

The learners shall obtain minimum of 40% marks (i.e. 16 out of 40) in the Internal Assessment and 40% marks in Semester End Examination (i.e. 24 Out of 60) separately, to pass the course and minimum of Grade E in the project component, wherever applicable to pass a particular semester. A learner will be said to have passed the course if the learner passes the Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination together.

Carry Forward of the Marks in Case if the Learner Fails in One or More Courses:
1) A learner who passes in the Internal Examination but fails in the Semester End Examination of the course shall reappear for the Semester End Examination of that course. However his/her marks of the Internal Examinations shall be carried over and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained by him/her on passing.

2) A learner who passes in the Semester End Examination but fails in the Internal Assessment of the course shall reappear for the Internal Examination of that course.
However his/her marks of the Semester End Examination shall be carried over and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained by him/her on passing.

3) In case of learner who is reappearing for the Internal Examination, the examination will consist of one project of 40 marks which will be divided into 20 marks for the documentation of the project, 10 marks for the presentation and 10 marks for the Viva Voce and the interaction.

Allowed to Keep Terms (ATKT):

1) A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester II irrespective of number of courses of failure in the Semester I.

2) A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester III if he/she passes each of Semester I and Semester II

                                                     OR

A learner fails in not more than two courses of Semester I and Semester II.

3) A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester IV irrespective of number of courses of failure in Semester III. However, the learner has to pass each of Semester I and Semester II in order to appear for Semester IV.

4) A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester V if he/she passes Semester I, Semester II, Semester III and Semester IV

                                                    OR

A learner shall pass Semester I and Semester II and fails in not more than two courses of Semester III and Semester IV taken together.

ADDITIONAL SEMESTER END EXAMINATION:

Eligibility to appear for additional semester end examination

A learner who does not appear i.e. remains absent in some or all the courses on medical grounds or for representing the College / University in sports, cultural activities, activities of NSS, NCC or sports training camps conducted by recognized bodies / competent authorities or for any other reason which is considered valid under exceptional circumstances and to the satisfaction of the Principal or the Head of the Institute OR fails in some or all the courses is eligible to appear for the additional examination.

A learner who does not appear for both the Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination shall not be eligible to appear for the additional Semester End Examination. The additional Semester End Examination shall be of two hours duration and of 60 marks per course. The learner shall appear for the Semester End Examination of the course for which he/she was absent or has failed. Learners who are punished under O.5050 shall not be eligible to appear for this additional examination.
Mode of semester end additional examination:
a) There will be one additional examination for semester I, II, III and IV only for those who have failed or remained absent.

b) The absent learner will be allowed to appear for the examination by the head of the institution after following the necessary formalities subject to the reasons to the satisfaction of the head of the institution.

c) This examination will be held 20 days after the declaration of results but not later than 40 days.

Evaluation of Projects (Wherever Applicable)

a. A learner who PASSES IN ALL THE COURSES BUT DOES NOT secure minimum grade of E in project as applicable has to resubmit a fresh project for evaluation till he/she secures a minimum of grade E. His/her marks in the theory Courses that the learner has passed will be carried forward and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained by him/her on passing.

b. The evaluation of project and viva-voce examination shall be by awarding grade in the seven point scale as given in the grade point table.

c. A learner shall have to obtain minimum of Grade “E” (or its equivalent marks) in project evaluation and viva voce taken together.

Calculations of GPA & SGPA
Grade Point Average (SGPA Calculation)

Semester Grade point Average (SGPA):- It is the summation of product of Credit Points and Grade Points divided by the summation of Credits of all Courses.

GPA is calculated at the end of each term after grades have been processed and after any grade have been updated or changed.

PERFORMANCE GRADING

The PERFORMANCE GRADING of the learners shall be on the SEVEN point ranking system as under:

The performance grading shall be based on the aggregate performance of Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination.
The above guidelines are subject to change/modification as may be made by the University of Mumbai and intimated to the college time to time.

Revised Examination pattern for Third Year B Com students (Applicable for the academic year 2012-13)

Scheme of Examination:
The Scheme of Examination shall be divided into two components: Internal Assessment and Annual Theory Examination for each subject/paper. Internal Assessment includes Assignments, Seminars, Case Studies, Quizzes, Viva, Open book test, Class Tests etc. For each subject/paper, there is separate passing for Internal Assessment of minimum 35% (14 out of 40 marks) and for Annual Theory Examination minimum of 35% (21 out of 60 marks) and overall 35% (35 out of 100 marks) for the subject.

 
A) Internal Assessment – 40%  (40 marks)

B) Annual Theory/Written Examination (to be conducted by the University of Mumbai at the end of the year)‐‐‐ 60 %   (60 Marks)

Duration – These examinations shall be of 2 Hours duration.
Question Paper Pattern:‐ 4 Compulsory Questions (with internal options) of 15 Marks each (Covering the entire syllabus) as follows:
1.  One Question carrying 15 marks for long answer.
2.  Two Questions carrying 15 marks each for short answer (divided into a, b and c)
3.  One Question carrying 15 marks for objective type answers i.e. Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blanks, Match the Columns, True or False (with reasons) etc. for conceptual testing.

The assessment of Part ‘A’ i.e. Internal Assessment as mentioned above shall be done by the Colleges / Institutions of their Candidates admitted for the T.Y.B.Com. Degree Subject/paper while the University shall conduct the assessment of the Part B i.e. Annual Theory Examination registered with the University. The Internal Assessment marks of Candidates appearing for the T.Y.B.Com. Examinations shall be submitted to the University by the respective colleges/Institutions before the commencement of Annual Theory Examination or as per the schedule prescribed by the University of Mumbai. The Annual Theory Examination shall be conducted by the University. The results shall be declared after processing the marks of the internal assessment and the marks awarded to the Candidates in the Annual Theory Examination. The results will be declared by the University of Mumbai and the Statement of Marks shall be issued by the University.

Standard of Passing

The candidate to pass a subject/paper shall have to obtain a minimum of 35% marks in aggregate for each subject/paper where the subject/paper consists of Internal Assessment & Annual Theory Examination. The candidate shall obtain minimum of 35% marks (i.e. 14 out of 40) in the Internal Assessment and 35% marks in Annual Theory Examination (i.e. 21 Out of 60) separately, to pass the subject/paper. A candidate will be said to have passed the subject/paper if the candidate passes the Internal Assessment & Annual Theory Examination together.

CARRY FORWARDS OF MARKS IN CASE OF A CANDIDATE WHO FAILS IN THE
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT AND/OR ANNUAL THEORY EXAMINATION IN ONE OR MORE SUBJECTS


A Candidate who PASSES in the Internal Examination but FAILS in the Annual Theory Examination of the subject/paper shall reappear for the Annual Theory Examination of that subject/paper. However his/her marks of the Internal Examinations shall be carried over and he/she shall be awarded “Pass Class” on passing.

A Candidate who PASSES in the Annual Theory Examination but FAILS in the Internal Assessment of the subject/paper shall reappear for the Internal Examination of that subject/paper. However his/her marks of the Annual Theory Examination shall be carried over and he/she shall be entitled “Pass Class” on passing.

A) For Subject/papers without practical
In case of a Candidate who is reappearing for the Internal Examination, the examination will consist of one project of 40 marks which will be divided into 20 marks for the documentation of the project, 10 marks for the presentation and 10 marks for the viva and the interaction.

B) For Subject/papers with practical
In case of a Candidate who is reappearing for the Internal Examination for subjects with Practical, the examinations will consist of practical examination of 40 marks which will be divided into 20 marks for the laboratory work, 10 marks for the Viva Examination and 10 marks for the Journal.

Unfair means at Examinations: Students of the Degree college who are found adopting unfair means at the examinations, tutorials, etc. will be dealt with as per the University Rules, MU Act 1994 and the provision of Act no. XXXI/1982 as the case may be.

T.Y.B.Com students are to note that Examination forms of the following categories of students will not be sent, or if already sent, will be withdrawn for:

a)    Poor attendance (As per Ordinance 119, 125 etc.), and
b)    Poor conduct and performance.

Any change in the Rules regarding examinations will be notified for information of students, as and when received from the University. They are advised to read notice board periodically.


Issue of duplicate marksheet

As per the University Circular No. Cert./Conv./1058 of 2008 dated 26th November 2008 the students who intend to apply for duplicate copies of their statement of marks, certificates of passing, degree certificates as well as special certificates should produce an affidavit on a non-judicial stamp paper of Rs. 100/- made in that behalf before the Metropolitan Magistrate or Notary appointed by the Government to that effect, the reason for issue of duplicate copy of the aforesaid documents mentioning therein so also, the First Information Report (F.I.R.) registered in the Police Station for the reasons whatsoever, i.e. loss, damage of the same, etc. to check the misuse of the aforesaid documents. On completion of these formalities and payment of necessary fees, the required duplicate certificates will be issued to the concerned students accordingly.
